You don't. As a full-time student, you will receive full financial support throughout the course of your graduate studies. The current student stipend is generous and includes all tuitions and fees. Student teaching is not mandatory. Continuous registration during all terms is required, and outside jobs are not permitted.
Other sources of support and supplemental awards may be obtained by applying for the following:
- John M. McKibbin Predoctoral Research Fellowship
- McKibbin Young Investigator Prize
- Campus-wide awards, such as the Bertrand Marx Award for outstanding biomedical research, International Student Recognition Awards and the annual Sigma Xi Awards.
- Minority graduate fellowships through the Comprehensive Minority Faculty Development Program
- Individual or institutional predoctoral training awards of the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation and private foundations.
Faculty members will help you assemble appropriate applications.
