Academic Access Living in student housing puts you in a prime position for academic success. You have the luxury of living just a couple of blocks from the library and major classroom buildings. And because the halls house a mix of majors, there’s always someone you can ask to help you study.
Exciting Environment
If you want to get involved in student life activities, there’s no better place to be. All residence halls are a short stroll from movies, meetings, and more at Hill University Center; fitness facilities; outdoor fun at the Mini Park; music and theater at the Alys Robinson Stephens Performing Arts Center; plus most UAB athletic events.
More Personal Space
As a resident student at UAB, you will never share a bedroom or a bathroom with more than one other person – no community bathrooms at the end of the hall! In fact, we are one of the few campuses in the Southeast that offers ONLY suites and apartments to our students. That’s right – we do not have “dorms” at UAB! Over half (1,000) of our apartments offer private rooms within an apartment you can have all to yourself (Denman and Camp) or share with up to three other residents (Rast and Blount). The choice is yours to make! For the more academically minded juniors, seniors and graduate students, we offer double and single apartments in Denman Hall or two bedroom apartments in Blount Hall. We have what you're looking for!
New Friends
Many people say the best benefit of living in student housing is getting the chance to meet all the other students. In every hall, you’ll meet fascinating and diverse people from around Alabama, the nation, and the world. So you’re bound to find someone who shares an interest as your groups of friends grow.
Events and Activities
There’s much more to student housing than just the roof over your head. Each hall sponsors colorful, exciting activities for residents and provides staff to answer your questions, help you get settled, and encourage you to get involved. You can also participate in the Residence Hall Association, which brings together residents from each hall to promote interaction, personal development, and a spirit of community.
Safety
All residence halls are located within three city blocks of each other, making for a very close-knit, convenient, and accessible community within the larger city of Birmingham. Parents (and students) can rest assured that we take every precaution to provide an environment that is both safe and secure. With card access to each residence hall for residents only, 24 hour lobby sign-in desks for close monitoring of visitors and guests, Student Housing staff living throughout each hall, evening Campus Escort service, and a dedicated Student Housing police precinct with nine trained and sworn police officers to facilitate our community policing program, we are confident you will rest easier knowing your student is living on campus.
The City up Close
Since the residence halls are in the heart of UAB and UAB is in the heart of Birmingham, you’re conveniently located near all the attractions of Alabama’s largest, most energetic city. Just a few streets away, the coffeehouses and restaurants of the eclectic Five Points South neighborhood are favorite hangouts for students. If you’re hunting for a job, internship, or career experience, the central business district is close to campus. Plus you’re just minutes from museums, malls, festivals, professional sports, parks, the great outdoors, the airport, and much more.
