If you want to get in shape, then get to the Campus Rec Center where you can satisfy all your fitness needs under one roof:
- a unique aquatics area offering lap lanes, hot tub, whirlpool, aqua aerobics, and water basketball and volleyball
- four basketball courts
- five racquetball or squash courts
- a multipurpose court for basketball, badminton, volleyball, or soccer
- a 1/8-mile indoor track
- approximately 200 state-of-the-art stations including treadmills, stair-climbers, stationary bikes, and a full range of weight machines
- a free weight area with dumbbells, barbells, and benches
- certified personal trainers to help you set fitness goals, design exercise plans, or challenge you to work harder
- an indoor five-story natural-looking climbing wall
- classic games such as pool, shuffleboard, table tennis, foosball, and darts
- a juice bar offering a variety of juices, bottled water, sports drinks, energy bars, and light snacks
- spacious men's and women's changing rooms.

Intramural Sports
If you’re game for exciting athletic competition, sign up for intramural sports. Compete for league trophies in sports such as basketball, bowling, flag football, golf, soccer, softball, ultimate frisbee, and volleyball. Or play to win special tournaments in billiards, racquetball, tennis, and other sports. League sports let you join a team or play as a free agent. Tournaments are designed for singles or doubles. All students, faculty, and staff are eligible to compete. For complete schedules, policies, winner lists, and more, check out the online guide. You can also become an intramural sports official, scorekeeper, or event supervisor. No experience is necessary, and training is provided. You’ll find the details in the online guide.
Intramural and Recreation Fields
Dowdy Field is used for intramural soccer, softball, and ultimate frisbee plus team practice for UAB Blazers football. The enclosed, lighted field is located at 11th St. S. and University Blvd. For more information, call (205) 934-8224.
Track Field is the site for intramural flag football and ultimate frisbee along with physical education classes and the UAB Blazers football team. The enclosed lighted field features a quarter-mile synthetic running track and is located at 12th St. S. and 6th Ave. S. For more information, call (205) 934-5008.
West Campus Intramural Field hosts intramural flag football, soccer, and softball as well as the UAB Blazers soccer teams. The enclosed, lighted field is located at 11th St. S. and 9th Ave. S. For more information, call (205) 934-8224.
