New freshmen are automatically considered for all university-wide academic scholarships once they are accepted to UAB. Merit scholarships are awarded on a first come-first served basis to eligible entering freshmen. Students who wish to be considered for merit scholarships should postmark the undergraduate application and all supporting credentials (official transcript and official ACT and/or SAT scores)
no later than November 1 of the senior year.
Admission applications completed after November 1 of the senior year will be considered on a funds-available basis only.
Academic Scholarships for freshmen who are Alabama residents:
Academic Excellence Award: This renewable award, valued at $8,000 per year plus a $4000 per year housing stipend for UAB on-campus housing, is reserved for entering freshmen with a 33-36 ACT (or SAT equivalent) and a 3.5 GPA.
University Scholars Award: This renewable award, reserved for entering freshmen with a 29-32 ACT (or SAT equivalent) and a 3.5 GPA, includes full in-state tuition and required fees, a $1000 per year book stipend and a $2000 per year housing stipend for UAB on-campus housing.
Green and Gold Scholarship: This renewable award, valued at $4,500 per year plus a $2000 per year housing stipend for UAB on-campus housing, is reserved for entering freshmen with a 27-28 ACT composite (or SAT equivalent) and a 3.5 cumulative GPA.
Blazing Scholar Award: This renewable award, valued at $4,000 per year, is reserved for entering freshmen with a 25-26 ACT composite (or SAT equivalent) and 3.5 cumulative GPA.
Academic Scholarships for freshmen from out-of-state:
Non-Resident Scholarship 1: This renewable scholarship, valued at $6000 per year, requires a minimum of a 28 ACT (or equivalent SAT) and a 3.0 GPA and is reserved for entering freshmen who are not classified as Alabama residents (does not include international students).
Non-Resident Scholarship 2: This renewable scholarship, valued at $4500 per year, requires a minimum of a 24 ACT (or equivalent SAT) and a 3.0 GPA and is reserved for entering freshmen who are not classified as Alabama residents (does not include international students).
Transfer students transferring from 2-year community colleges are automatically considered for all university-wide academic scholarships once they are accepted to UAB. Transfer scholarships are awarded only to students beginning in the fall term of the year. Students who wish to be considered for transfer academic scholarships should postmark the undergraduate application and all supporting credentials no later than February 1 prior to the fall semester you plan to begin. Contact your school and/or department to find out how to apply for their scholarships.
Academic Scholarship for students transferring from 2-year community colleges:
Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship: This renewable scholarship, valued at $4,000 per year, is reserved for community college transfer students who are members of Phi Theta Kappa and have a 3.5 minimum transfer GPA.
UAB Transfer Scholarship: This renewable scholarship, valued at $1,000 per year, is reserved for community college transfer students with a minimum transfer GPA of 3.5 GPA).
Currently enrolled students should obtain a scholarship application from UAB's Office of Financial Aid. Applications for currently enrolled students must be submitted by February 1 for consideration. Most scholarships are awarded in the spring term and go into effect the following academic year.
