Admission Requirements

Application Form and Fee: Submit an application for admission and appropriate, nonrefundable application fee ($35 check or money order payable in U.S. dollars for paper application; $30 credit card payment for online application). You must declare a major on your UAB application (section 10) to obtain the immigration document for your student visa.

TOEFL or IELTS scores: An official TOEFL score or IELTS score is required if English is not your native language. You must have a minimum TOEFL score (UAB code 1856) of 500 on the written examination, or a score of 173 on the computer-based version, or 61 on the Internet-based version or IELTS score of 5.5 overall bandwidth with no less than a 5.0 on any module. Scores must be sent directly to UAB from the testing agency. The score you submit should not be more than two years old. The agencies listed below can provide details on each examination.

Transcript Evaluation:

First-time FRESHMEN must submit a document-by-document evaluation and a grade point average (GPA) computation from either evaluation agency listed below. Request that a copy of the completed evaluation be sent directly to the University of Alabama at Birmingham. You may be eligible to receive high school equivalency and some transferable undergraduate college credit. If applicable, request a course-by-course evaluation as well as a GPA computation. Request that a copy of the completed evaluation be sent directly to the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

TRANSFER students who have attended a college or university outside the U.S. for more than one year or have earned credit for at least 24 semester hours of coursework, must submit a course-by-course evaluation. Students who have attended college approximately less than one year as a full-time student or have earned fewer than 24 semester hours of credit, will need to have both official college and secondary school documents sent to Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc. or World Education Services and request a course-by-course as well as a GPA computation.

Coursework earned in the United States: If you attended high school or college in the U.S., official transcripts from each institution are required and should be mailed directly to UAB by the institution.
