UAB Police

Because safety is a top priority, UAB’s accredited police force patrols the campus 24 hours a day by car, on foot,  on horseback and bicycle. You can help prevent crime and protect yourself by taking advantage of the police department’s many useful services:

  • More than 400 Help Phones in buildings, parking lots, and many other locations across campus put you directly in touch with the UAB Police. All phones are monitored 24 hours a day.
  • The UAB Escort Service can help you stay safe on campus after dark. Call 934-8772 (or use one of the designated white telephones inside buildings) and a UAB escort will meet you and accompany you to your on-campus destination.
  • The department’s crime prevention specialist coordinates seminars and presentations to help you learn important safety tips.
  • You can also take part in the successful Campus Watch program which is similar to Neighborhood Watch and involves students, faculty, staff, and police officers.

Please visit the UAB Police website (www.uab.edu/police) for a copy of the annual campus security report and complete information about on-campus services and crime prevention.

UAB Emergency Notification

UAB has developed a system for sending text messages to cell phones and pagers when there is urgent information which needs to be quickly communicated to students, faculty and staff.

While participation in the service is currently voluntary, we encourage your student to sign up.  Please be advised that the standard charges will apply for text messages.  However, at this time UAB intends to use this only for emergency purposes, with the exception of drills or other tests which may be conducted to ensure proper functioning of the system.

To sign up, simply fill out and submit one of the forms on BlazerNET under the Student Resources tab.
