  • This website is designed to introduce you to UAB’s First Year Experience. Information will be presented to you in detail at Goin’ Green New Student Orientation over the summer.
  • At Goin’ Green New Student Orientation, you will work collaboratively with your advisor to develop the best schedule for your needs and interests.
What is the First Year Experience (FYE)?
UAB’s First Year Experience is a combination of programs, courses and support services designed to better insure that entering first year students are successful inside and outside of the classroom.

How does the FYE affect my course schedule?

Unless you have been admitted to one of UAB's Honors Programs (Global and Community Leadership, Science and Technology or University-wide Honors) you are required to take an FYE course (selected from one of the options below) that is designed to address common issues for new college freshmen. Each course is unique in content, but shares common goals. You should complete the course with a better understanding of UAB, your personal and academic goals, and various skills fundamental for academic success at the collegiate level. It is also our hope that at the completion of the course you will have begun to develop new and lasting friendships with your fellow FYE classmates.

If you have been admitted to one of UAB's Honors Programs (Global and Community Leadership, Science and Technology or University-wide Honors), you do NOT have to continue in this website. Your FYE is built into your Honors Program curriculum.

What are the FYE course options?
University 101
School-focused FYE courses
Freshman Learning Community (FLC)

What is my next step?
