New admission requirements as of Fall 2008
UAB wants to make succeeding in a challenging university setting a possibility for all students and that includes the children of our alumni! Studies show that three factors usually contribute to academic success:
- Strength of the preparatory curriculum
- A competitive cumulative GPA in core preparatory courses
- Above average scores on standardized tests (ACT or SAT)
The Preparatory Curriculum
Completing a challenging high school preparatory curriculum is one of the best indicators for potential success in college. Effective with the entering freshman class of fall 2008, the following high school curriculum will become a requirement for freshman admission to UAB.
English
4 years
Sciences
3 years--To include two lab sciences
Mathematics
3 years--To include algebra I and higher
Social Science
3 years
Foreign Language
1 year
3 additional core courses for a total of at least 17 core courses
In addition, freshman students entering fall 2008 will be required to have a 2.25 cumulative GPA in all high school courses completed. No change to the current minimum ACT score of 20 (or equivalent SAT) is planned.
