Class Notes: Spring 2010

State's Attorney Anita Alvarez (B.A., Political Science, '03) recently swore in a new class of Cook County, Illinois Assistant State's Attorneys at a ceremony in Downtown Chicago.

Charles Edge (B.S. Accounting, '85) has joined Bennett Thrasher PC in Atlanta as Director of Transfer Pricing.  

Jane Geiger (M.A., Counseling, '93) recently published her third book on respectful relating and couples therapy called, Handling Difficult Holidays. Dr. Geiger is also the founder and president of Grace Ministries of Homewood.

Dr. Kelly Goudreau, DSN, RN, ACNS-BC, (D.S.N., Nursing, '00) was awarded the Brenda Lyon Leadership  Award from the Board of Directors of the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialist for her outstanding leadership with the NACNS.

Gary Hall (B.A., Mass Communication, '89) received two Telly Awards from the 31st Annual Telly Awards for two PSA campaigns created for the Defense Media Activity.

Claudia Hardy (M.P.A., Public Administration, '94), is the 2010 recipient of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Life is a Gift Award presented each year by the organization's North Central Alabama affiliate. The award recognizes an individual whose work and attitude reflect gratefulness and appreciation for the subtle and profound gifts of life. Hardy is the program director for UAB's Deep South Network for Cancer Control.

Lora Lankford (B.S., Nursing, '92) recently published Education Malpractice: My Four Year Journey Through an Online University, What Every Adult Learner Should Know Before Registering for Class.

Brandy Murphy Lee (M.A., Accounting, '96) has joined Lee Law Firm, LLC in downtown Birmingham. She focuses in the fields of business torts, municipal law, professional liability, employment law, trucking litigation, manufactured housing litigation and general civil litigation.

W. Daniel "Dee" Miles, III (B.S., Business, '85) has been selected for inclusion in the 2010 edition of The Heritage Registry of Who's Who. He was selected in recognition of his accomplishments and achievements attained in the field of legal services. He is a shareholder with Beasley, Allen, Crow, Methvin, Portis & Miles, P.C., law firm in Montgomery.

Linda Mancillas Patterson (B.A. Political Science and Women's Studies, '01) is a Women's Research and Education Institute (WREI) Congressional Fellow for 2010. During this fellowship, she will be working on public policy issues in the office of Congressman Bobby Scott (D-VA), U.S. House of Representatives from January to August 2010.

Brig. Gen. N. Lee S. Price (B.S., Criminal Justice, '75) has made history by becoming the Army's first female program executive officer. She is the leader of the Army's Program Executive Office (PEO) Command, Control and Communications-Tactical during a Change of Charter Ceremony at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md.

Kathleen Stafford's (B.A., Art Studio, '73) watercolor and print artwork is currently on display at the Art League Gallery in the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, Va.
