A Message from the UAB NAS President, Cindy Godwin
Dear Alumni and Fellow UAB Supporters,
It is a privilege for me to be your president at such an incredible and magical time for UAB. This University is truly living the Cinderella story.
When I look into the faces of our UAB students today, I see the same kind of excitement and sense of pride at being a part of something special that so many of us have felt for years. This year at graduation there was such a feeling of elation as our graduates wore green caps and gowns for the first time and how much fun it was to watch as they gathered around the Blaze statue for family pictures. For me, it is so much more meaningful to be a part of making traditions at UAB than to be at a school where traditions were set a hundred or so years ago.
I saw the magic that is UAB so clearly a few weeks ago. Alumni, students, families of students, UTEP visitors, and a man and his wife carrying Blaze puppets and wearing dragon wings, set in the cold pouring rain of a Sunday afternoon watching a women's soccer game. But someone else sat in rain for the entire game--our University President. Now you tell me, is there another school in the nation with a President who is as accessible to students or who is as interested in their well-being as our President. Most students and alumni never even meet their president, much less be able to have a conversation with one. That is part of the magic that is UAB!
Moments like the ones I just described happen every day at UAB. If you would like to have a role in the Cinderella story that is UAB, then be a part of something Big and be a part of the UAB Alumni Society. Join us this year so that you and your family can be a part of setting traditions and enjoying the magic that is UAB!
