SAS Canned Food Drive Supports Birmingham Community

Throughout September the Student Alumni Society coordinated a campus wide canned food drive benefitting Magic City Harvest to help celebrate UAB's 40th anniversary and its first annual University Day. The canned food drive was coordinated by the Student Alumni Society and invited students, faculty, staff and friends to participate. The drive started on September 4th and ended on September 24th as part of the University Day activities. Collection boxes were placed around campus in high traffic areas such as Sterne Library, Hill University Center, Blazer Hall and Commons on the Green.

Many student organizations also pitched in and collected cans and other non-perishable items by holding special events and programs within their organizations. The Leadership and Service Council sponsored a competition among student organizations to encourage participation and provided recognition for those organizations that collected the most items.

 The winning organizations were:

Kappa Alpha Psi
First Place

Student Organizations of the School of Health Professions
Second Place

Golden Key
Third Place

Thanks to the help of everyone involved, UAB was able to make a significant contribution to the Birmingham community!
