On Nov. 7, 2009, Mr. Andrew Stone and Ms. Claire Sands were honored as the 2009-2010 Mr. and Ms. UAB. Stone is a senior marketing major from Wedowee, and Sands is a junior biology major from Mobile who is in the UAB Early Medical School Acceptance Program.
Mr. Yih Tsao of Taipei, Taiwan and Ms. Emily Craig of Clay were honored as first alternates. Selected as finalists were Mr. Will Bates of Huntsville, Ms. Kristen Davis of Wilmer, Mr. Quinn Dunlap of Hartselle, Ms. Kimberly Everett of Semmes, Ms. Nora Mehl of Rottweil, Germany, and Mr. Phillip Philon of Silas.
This year's competition made history as it was the inaugural year that students were given a vote for the winners.
Each year the National Alumni Society bestows the titles of Mr. & Ms. UAB upon two outstanding students, whose leadership and academic success have proven to be exemplary during their student careers. Mr. and Ms. UAB serve as the leaders of the Student Alumni Society, as well as student representatives on the NAS Board of Directors throughout their tenure. The Society is honored to also award a $1,500 scholarship to the winners of the Mr. & Ms. UAB scholarship competition.
