Get Involved with the SAS

When you become a member of the Student Alumni Society, you are given an opportunity to get involved on campus and in the community. The SAS offers many student volunteer opportunities throughout the year.  Below are just a few we have to offer.  Interested?  Contact us to learn how you can become involved with the SAS.

Phone-a-Thon for Campus Green

The Student Alumni Society (SAS) along with Mr. and Ms. UAB, Dixon Dorand and Riley Carpenter, hosted the second annual phonathon to raise money for the growing Campus Green Project.

The Project was designed to make UAB a more traditional campus. Thus far, UAB has added the Campus Recreation Center, Blazer Hall (freshman residence hall) and Blazer Dining Hall, as well as Heritage Hall - the new home of the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences.

The SAS received more than 300 pledges and raised more than $10,000. For more information about how you can become involved, contact Jennifer Breland at (205) 934-3555.

Community Service Projects

Each year, Mr. & Ms. UAB lead the SAS in a community service project that reaches out to those in our community.

Last year, the SAS made and delivered special valentines and candy to over 30 families staying in the Ronald McDonald House.  Students had the opportunity to deliver the valentines to each family's room and distribute candy during the group dinner.

The Ronald McDonald House and its residents were very thankful and enjoyed sharing the spirit of Valentine's Day with the SAS.

Last spring, the SAS set out to help a nearby elementary school.

Students volunteered their time to help clean up Glen Iris Elementary School, located just outside of the UAB campus.

The time and efforts put forth by our UAB students one Saturday morning made a great impact and lasting impression on this local school.
