Dr. Bart Hodgens has been affiliated with UAB in various capacities for the past 20 years. From 1985 to 1995, he was an Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Pediatrics providing training to pediatric residents and psychology interns/students, as well psychological services to children and adolescents through The Children's Hospital of Alabama. Bart took a clinical position with Children's Behavioral Health from 1995 to 1998, remaining at Children's Hospital and maintaining academic appointments in Pediatrics and Psychology. Since 1998, Dr. Hodgens has worked at UAB's Sparks Clinics, which is affiliated with The Civitan International Research Center.
Bart currently directs interdisciplinary clinics focusing on the evaluation and treatment of childhood learning disabilities and behavior disorders. He established The ADHD Clinic in 1989 and continues this work through the Sparks' Behavioral Assessment Clinic. He is the Director of UAB's Summer Treatment Program (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8642147/) for children with ADHD and was named recipient of the McNulty Civitan Scientist Award for 2005 (http://www.circ.uab.edu/cpintern.htm#program).
Bart received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Auburn University in 1984 and completed his internship at UAB in 1985. His research and teaching interests include childhood peer relations and the assessment and treatment of childhood behavior disorders. Currently, he is investigating the Predominantly Inattentive subtype of ADHD, the association of sluggish cognitive tempo with a subset of this group, and possible underlying neural processes.
