Dr. Muhammad Yasin Sheikh is Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine with UCSF and Chief of Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at UCSF Fresno. He has previously served as Director of Liver Transplant Program at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center.

He played a pivotal role in establishing a gastroenterology division and a fellowship program at the CRMC/UCSF Fresno. Dr. Sheikh is board certified in internal medicine, gastroenterology, and clinical nutrition. He is a fellow of American College of Physicians, American College of Gastroenterology and American Gastroenterology Association. He is a member of American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases.

In addition to his proficiency in general gastroenterology procedures, Dr. Sheikh specializes in the management of acute and chronic liver diseases, liver transplant evaluation, and nutritional support of critically ill patients. He is recipient of dozens of research grants and is presently actively involved in clinical research related to hepatitis C, fatty liver, hepatic encephalopathy and new innovative tools to assess infections in cirrhosis patients. He is a member of advisory committee of American Liver Foundation, Northern California Chapter. He directs “Valley Gut Club”, a highly prestigious monthly CME program. Dr. Sheikh has published extensively in the top ranking journals including New England Journal of Medicine and Hepatology. He sits on editorial board of World J Hepatology, Annals of Hepatology, PPAR Research, and Anti-Infective Agents in Medicinal Chemistry.
