BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB Summer Band presents a free Fourth of July concert, featuring patriotic, pops and traditional band music. An audience sing-a-long medley will include "America the Beautiful," "You're a Grand Old Flag" and "God Bless the U.S.A." The concert will feature special guest soloist Geoffrey Gallante, an 8-year-old prodigy trumpet player.

All ages are welcome for a relaxing hour of free, family-friendly music. Lawn chairs, blankets and picnics are encouraged. The UAB Summer Band also will sell chances to step in as guest conductor for the band on "Stars and Stripes Forever." Chances are $2 each or $5 for three chances and will be available at the event.

After the concert, the band and others will lead the way to the UAB Campus Green, on University Boulevard between 14th and 16th Streets South, to watch the fireworks launched from atop Red Mountain.

The concert will be held on Saturday, July 4 at 7:30 p.m. on the lawn in front of Bartow Arena, 617 13th Street South.

The UAB Summer Band is a community band with 75 members, led by Sue Samuels, assistant professor of music and director of bands in the UAB Department of Music.

Admission is free. For information call the UAB Department of Music at 205-934-7376.
