Quantitative Literacy

Quantitative literacy is fundamental to solving quantitative problems that occur in school, life, and work, and in communicating solutions to those problems to others.  Quantitative literacy builds on mathematics, but unlike "pure math" it emphasizes the application of quantitative methods in a wide variety of contexts. Quantitatively literate students are able to couch a problem in quantitative terms and then solve it using appropriate methods.  Like verbal literacy, quantitative literacy is critical to effective citizenship, economic participation, and social responsibility.

Here on UAB's Quantitative Literacy (QL) web site you will learn more about what QL is, why it is important, and how UAB intends to help all our graduates develop their QL core competencies.
