About us

Background

The CPL has supported the animal care mission of the UAB Animal Resources Program and the animal research projects of UAB investigators since 1968. Research support now constitutes one of the CPL's most important activities. For FY 2007-2008, the CPL produced more than 27,000 histologic sections, over 90% of which were for research projects.

Staff
The CPL is staffed by two histology technicians, a medical technologist, and two board certified veterinary pathologists specializing in laboratory animal pathology. [Contact information]
Resources
The CPL has modern equipment to perform all anatomic and clinical pathologic, microbiologic, parasitologic, and other procedures necessary to fulfill its mission, including a Mopec® downdraft necropsy table and grossing station, Sakura Tissue-Tek VIP® programmable tissue processor, TBS SHUR/Mark® slide and cassette labelers, Thermo Shandon Histo Centre 2® embedding station, rotary microtomes, Sakura Tissue-Tek DRS® programmable stainer, dual-view consulting microscope, MICROM HM505E® cryostat, Abaxis VetScan® HMII hematology analyzer, Drew Hemavet® 850FS hematology analyzer, Abaxis VetScan® chemistry analyzer, and laminar flow biosafety cabinets.
