Project Description: The UAB Center for the Study of Community Health (CSCH) is a CDC Prevention Research Center. The core research project, Flying Sparks, builds upon the Center's previous ten years of community health promotion research, which was focused on reducing the health risks and disparities in Alabama's underserved, rural, and predominantly African-American communities. The purpose of the Flying Sparks project is to determine the factors affecting adoption of the Center's previously-tested Community Health Advisor-based chronic disease intervention which was packaged as the Community Health Tool Box and widely disseminated to twenty communities in seven counties in the Black Belt region of Alabama. Currently, the project has expanded to collect Blood Glucose and BMI and to use the CHA networks to translate the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) findings into additional community interventions.

Intern's Anticipated Duties:
Duty 1: Assist with implementation of the program, including outreach activities in the community
Duty 2: Assist with data collection (community surveys and archival data)
Duty 3: Data entry and analysis; assist in manuscript preparation

Preceptor will provide intern with access to the following: office or desk space; computer and printer; supplies needed to complete project; equipment needed to complete the project
