Project Description: Dr. Davis' laboratory is focused on investigating the fundamental pathways of lymphoid development in order to explore the mechanisms that contribute to lymphomagenesis.  An interest in molecular aspects of hematopoietic malignancies, led to the co-discovery of a novel family of Ig-like superfamily genes from the human chromosome 1q21-23 region provisionally termed Fc receptor-like molecules (FCRL1-5).  FCRL family members are preferentially expressed by B lymphocytes and differentially identified in B lineage malignancies and autoimmune disorders.  Follow-up studies have identified eight human and seven mouse relatives.  The recognition of this family had significant implications for understanding connections between innate and adaptive humoral immunity, the regulation and terminal differentiation of B cells, and, the pathogenesis of B cell malignancies and autoimmunity.
