Project Description: This is a national database of VA and medical centers to pool similar data for this disease (prostate cancer) and to look at outcome similarities.  The data items that we will abstract include demographic data (name, medical record number, age, reace, height, weight), general medical history data (medical co-morbiditites, prior surgeries such as vasectomy, concomitant medication use, history of Agent Orange exposure), prostate cancer specific variables (PSA, prostate volume on ultrasound, digital rectal examiniation findings), findings fromm relevant radiological studies, pathological findings, details regarding treatment received for the cancer (surgery, blood loss during the surgery, radiation therapy after surgery, use of concomitant chemo-hormonal therapy), and finally data regarding outcome after treatment (recurrence, metastases, death, death from prostate cancer).  There will also be a questionnaire/survey relative to Quality of Life issues that will be answered by the prospective patient.

Intern's Anticipated Duties:
Duty 1: Abstracting data
Duty 2: Data entry into database
Duty 3: Assist analysis of data

Preceptor will provide intern with access to the following: office or desk space; computer and printer; equipment needed to complete project; supplies needed to complete project

Background, education, experience, or expertise preferred: Cancer Rates, Trends, and Statistics; Basic Knowledge of Statistics and Data Management; Opportunity to learn and be on the ground floor with development of tool
