Project Description: The treatment of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) is dependant on accurate staging.  Various pre-operative invasive staging modalities include mediastinoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), thoracotomy, and endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS).  EBUS is a relatively new modality which allows tissue sampling of mediastinal lymphnodes to assist with staging. This study will evaluate the efficacy of EBUS in patients who have NSCLC.

Intern's Anticipated Duties:
Duty 1: Data collection and data entry - student will be required to work with the thoracic surgeon, pulmonologist, and gastroenterologist to capture various data points
Duty 2: Literature review and synopsis

Preceptor will provide intern with access to the following: office or desk space; computer and printer

Likelihood of authoring publications: Possible

Background, education, experience, or expertise preferred: Just the willingness to learn; Interest in clinical medicine, thoracic surgery, or pulmonology is a plus

This faculty member has been a CaRES Preceptor for three or more summers.
