UAB ADVANCE faculty research awards have assisted tenure-track and tenured faculty, as well as new faculty, in the Schools of Engineering, Natural Sciences and Mathematics, and Social and Behavioral Sciences and the Department of Finance, Economics, and Quantitative Methods in the School of Business. The purpose of these awards is to provide support for research for women faculty in the targeted schools and departments.
In addition, there is a UAB ADVANCE Distinguished Visiting Scholars Program. The purpose of this program is to bring distinguished female scientists and engineers to the UAB campus in order to increase teh visibility of women scholars within the hosting department/school, and to provide UAB faculty with the opportunity to interact with these scholars.
Gender and Family in the Academy
Dr. Bob Drago came to UAB on August 12 and 13, 2010 to facilitate the final ADVANCE symposium, “Can Academics Have a Life? Balancing Work and Family in the Academy.” Dr. Drago is currently the Research Director of the Institute for Women’s Policy Research. He is former Professor of Labor Studies and Women's Studies at Pennsylvania State University, and Professional Fellow at the University of Melbourne.
