Beth Barstow MS, OTR/L, SCLV, is an Assistant Professor of Occupational Therapy at UAB. She joined the faculty in 2004 to lend her expertise to completing the development of the graduate certificate program and to teach in the program.

Beth has extensive clinical experience working with persons with spinal cord injury, stroke and low vision. Prior to joining the UAB faculty, she directed the occupational therapy services at the UAB Center for Low Vision Rehabilitation. Beth possesses AOTA Specialty Certification in Low Vision rehabilitation.

She is very active in promoting occupational therapy in low vision rehabilitation on a national level. She currently serves as a reviewer for AOTA Specialty Board for certification in low vision rehabilitation and as one of the AOTA representatives in a coalition of professions working in low vision rehabilitation. She also represents occupational therapy on a professional issues panel for the Association of Education and Rehabilitation of Blind and Visually Impaired (AER) and is co-editor with Mary Warren on a low vision textbook for occupational therapist to be published by AOTA in 2011.

Beth is completing her doctorate in health Education and promotion at UAB and plans to complete her dissertation on physical activity levels among older adults with low vision. Beth has also taught several continuing education courses on low vision rehabilitation in the United States and most recently in Singapore.
