Dr. James McClintock, the Interim Dean of the Graduate School, has announced March 2, 2004, that Chenxi
Wang, a graduate student in the Department of Nutrition Sciences, has received the Samuel B. Barker Award for Excellence in
Graduate Studies. Dr. Wang has conducted his graduate studies in the area of statistical analysis of the relation between
adiposity and longevity, and Dr, David Allison has served as the chair of his research committee. This is a university-wide
award and is given to only one doctoral student. The award was first given in 1995 and is named for Dr. Barker in recognition
of his service as the first dean of the UAB Graduate School.
