Graduate-level courses for non-degree seeking students

The courses listed below are available to non-degree seeking students seeking to bolster their knowledge and strengthen their application for admission to the UAB Master of Nurse Anesthesia Program. These courses are taught on-line through UAB.


Application:
You must apply as a non-degree seeking graduate student through the Graduate School (www.uab.edu/graduate).  Once you are accepted as a non-degree seeking student you can register for these courses.  If you are taking NA 600 you will need to contact the Nurse Anesthesia Program office to be granted an override to take this course.


NA 600 Nurse Anesthesia Research and Statistics (Spring Semester, 3 hours)
This course will introduce the student to clinical research methods and review concepts involved in descriptive and inferential Statistics. Topics covered include, overview of the research process, literature review, research hypothesis, research designs, sample selection, measurement methods, descriptive statistics, and inferential statistics. (Limited # of positions)

NA600 is a required course in UAB’s Master of Nurse Anesthesia program.  Credits earned for this course as a non-degree seeking student will satisfy the program’s research methods requirement should you be accepted.

NA 605 Advanced Pathophysiology (Spring Semester, 3 hours)
This course enhances the student’s knowledge of pathophysiology and disruptions in the normal body functioning. Objective and subjective manifestations of common health problems resulting from the environmental, genetic, and stress-related maladaptations are assessed and analyzed. Assessment findings, diagnostic testing, and interventions for specific health problems are discussed. Pharmacologic treatments for specific health problems are explored. In addition, anesthetic concerns for each physiologic state are discussed.

NA605 is not a required course in UAB’s Master of Nurse Anesthesia program.  Credits earned for this course as a non-degree seeking student will NOT satisfy the program’s pathophysiology requirement should you be accepted.
