Why pursue your degree at UAB?
How is the program structured?
The program consists of two years of academic coursework and one year devoted to the completion of an applied dissertation.
The blended course delivery format involves three intensive on-campus sessions per year, complemented by distance learning assignments conducted in work settings.
All D.Sc. students undertake the same program of study, focusing on leadership of healthcare systems, strategic management, and applied research methods.
Courses are directed toward application of management principles to practice.
The experience is enhanced by an opportunity to examine other healthcare delivery systems through an organized visit to an international location such as the United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Switzerland, The Czech Republic or Italy.
The doctoral dissertation is focused on advanced analysis of real organizational problems and on developing managerial recommendations based on applied research.
Throughout the course of study, students have ongoing communication with faculty, technology support, training on state-of-the-art course management software, and use of UAB’s extensive electronic library resources.
