We appreciate your interest in our Degree Completion Program for CRNAs, which is designed for practicing CRNA's with a bachelor's degree in nurse anesthesia who want to pursue a Master of Nurse Anesthesia degree.
Overview
- This program is designed for CRNAs who have a desire to obtain their Master's degree in Nurse Anesthesia.
- All courses will be taught by a distance education format. Lecture courses are videotaped and streamed to the Web, so students can watch the lecture on their own time. Exams will be online. Students may attend the lecture on campus if they desire.
- Other courses incorporate independent study, with at least 1 face-to-face class on a given Saturday. At most, students will meet in Birmingham once a semester.
- Students will be appointed an advisor who will mentor them through the program
- There is not time sequence, so students may enter the program at any time.
- If school is attended full-time, students can finish in 3 semesters (1 ½ years).
Program Objectives
- Provide certified registered nurse anesthetists with graduate level knowledge of anesthesia pharmacology, anesthesia for specific patient populations, anesthetic implications of various pathologies, and legal and professional aspects of anesthesia
- Prepare graduates to be improved providers of evidence-based anesthesia care.
- Develop research knowledge, skills, and expertise in critiquing anesthesia-related research in peer reviewed journals.
- Develop expertise in preparing a literature review manuscript on a relevant topic in the discipline of anesthesia.
- Prepare graduates for management positions.
