The University of Alabama at Birmingham’s (UAB) Department of Physical Therapy (Dept. of PT) is seeking a faculty member to conduct rehabilitation research and mentor other faculty and students in scholarship endeavors (see job advertisement below). UAB is a research university and academic health center that discovers, teaches and applies knowledge for the intellectual, cultural, social, and economic benefit of Birmingham, Alabama, and beyond.
UAB encompasses 82 city blocks and has a student enrollment of more than 17,000. UAB is also home to a large graduate school, a world renowned health care complex and more than 70 research centers. Those centers that are of particular interest to rehabilitation researchers focus on such topics as Aging, Neuroscience, Community Health, Outcomes and Effectiveness Research, and Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Disease. Currently, UAB ranks among the top 20 universities in funding from the National Institutes of Health, earning more than $470 million per year in contract and grant support, and the School of Health Professions is consistently one of the top two US health professions schools receiving NIH funding.
The UAB Dept. of PT has offered outstanding educational programs in physical therapy for almost 40 years, with a top 25 ranking for the past decade. Currently, the Dept. f PT supports an entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy and post-professional Doctor of Science degree for physical therapists. The Dept. of PT faculty consists of highly qualified individuals known for collaboration, productivity and leadership in physical therapy education, service and research in Alabama and Nationwide. The Dept. of PT is housed in a new state of the art facility with research laboratories addressing clinically relevant studies of human motion and exercise physiology.
Birmingham, the largest city in Alabama, is classic southern charm and hospitality. Research Faculty Position
The University of Alabama at Birmingham is a RU/VH: Research University. The research mission of UAB strongly promotes and supports collaborative efforts among the academic and clinical communities.
Title and Salary: Full-time, 12-month faculty position. Rank, salary, and tenure status commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Qualifications: Academic doctorate degree required with a history of obtaining external funding for research. Postdoctoral training and academic experience in rehabilitation sciences preferred.
Responsibilities: Conducting rehabilitation related research, securing research funding, mentoring of students in scholarly activity. Teaching content beyond scholarly activity is negotiable.
