Four UAB Department of Health Services Administration Professors Named Editors

Hernandez, O'Connor, Shewchuk and Weech-Maldonado named editors of various national peer-reviewed journals

Four University of Alabama at Birmingham professors in the Department of Health Services Administration  are leaving their mark after being named editors of various national peer-reviewed journals which chronicles research, case studies and essays by leading health administration educators and professionals. The professors are chosen because of their expertise in their respective fields to make editorial decisions on articles submitted by peers.

Richard Shewchuk, Ph.D., and Robert Hernandez, Ph.D., are co-editors for The Journal of Health Administration Education. Stephen O’Connor, Ph.D., is editor of the Journal of Healthcare Management. Robert Weech-Maldonado, Ph.D., is deputy editor of Medical Care, the official journal of the Medical Care section for the American Public Health Association.

“It’s an honor to be selected as an editor from a journal like Medical Care that is well recognized for its contributions to health services research, particularly in the area of access and quality of care for diverse populations,” said Weech-Maldonado. “These are the premier research journals in our industry. This signifies recognition for our research and contribution to our field.”

Each journal addresses key policy issues nationally and internationally in its respective fields including health administration and medical care. The publications also give the latest academic and professional developments in the field as well as industry trends.
