The UAB Department of Occupational Therapy congratulates two of its alumnae who were recently honored by the Alabama Occupational Therapy Association during their 2009 fall conference.
Linda Ragland, COTA, was presented the OTA Award of Excellence, which is given to the certified occupational therapy assistant who demonstrates excellence in practice.
Kim Preskitt, OTR, was presented the McKibbin Lectureship Award, which is named in honor of Elsie McKibbin who was the pioneer of occupational therapy in the State of Alabama.
The late Elsie McKibbin was responsible for establishing the Alabama OT Association as well as assisting in the initiation of the OT academic program at UAB (1968). She was very supportive of students and was an advocate of continuing education and scholarship.
The McKibbin Lectureship was established in her honor as a means to recognize the scholarship of educators and clinicians who are doing novel and interesting things in the profession. The award recipient presents the keynote address at the fall conference in the following year after receiving the award.
