Academic Honors and Awards

University Honors

UAB compiles and publishes an honor roll for undergraduate students at the close of each regular term. Only UAB credit is considered. To be eligible for the Presidential Honors List, undergraduate students must be registered for and complete at least twelve (12) semester hours of credit and have a 4.0 grade point average for the term. To be eligible for the Dean's List, an undergraduate student must be registered for and complete at least twelve (12) semester hours of credit and have at least a 3.6 grade point average for the term. Superior scholastic attainment may be further recognized by election to membership in appropriate honorary societies. SHP School-wide Awards

The following awards may be presented annually by the School of Health Professions:

The Dean's Leadership and Service Award presented to up to three outstanding SHP students for scholarship, leadership, and service to SHP and to UAB

The Cecile Clardy Satterfield Award for Humanism in Health Care presented to an outstanding student in recognition of achievements for humanitarianism in the clinical portion of the SHP educational program

The Alfred W. Sangster Award for Outstanding International Student presented to an outstanding international student enrolled in one of SHRP's programs

The Charles Brooks Award for Creativity presented in recognition of creative and innovative accomplishments of a SHRP student

SHP Academic Honoraries

Alpha Eta Society/UAB Chapter of Allied Health Professions National Honor Society. The society recognizes high attainment in the health related professions. Nominations are made by the program directors, and selection is made annually, generally in the summer term of each year. Candidates must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher (scale: A=4.0) in the health related discipline and must have demonstrated capacity for leadership and achievement in the chosen field of study.

Pi Theta Epsilon, Alpha Beta Chapter. This national honor society recognizes and encourages scholarship and service among students in occupational therapy.

Program Awards

The following awards may be presented annually by programs in the School of Health Professions:

B.S. in Health Sciences:
Thompson T. Abercrombie Distinguished Graduate Award presented to the outstanding graduate of the B.S. in Health Sciences Program

Clinical Nutrition:
C. E. Butterworth, Jr., Award presented to the outstanding graduate student in Clinical Nutrition
Harriet Holt Cloud Pediatric Nutrition Award presented to an outstanding graduate student in the M.S. in Clinical Nutrition whose research has a pediatric focus

Cytotechnology:
Outstanding Cytotechnology Student Award presented by the Cytology Association of Alabama

Dietetic Internship:
E. Neige Todhunter Dietetic Intern Award presented to a graduating dietetic intern who has demonstrated outstanding ability, interest, and potential in research and education
Outstanding Dietetic Intern Award presented to a graduating dietetic intern for outstanding academic performance and significant contributions to the Dietetic Internship Program

Health Administration:
Outstanding Student Award presented to a health administration student selected by peers; given by the Alumni Association and presented at the Annual Symposium for Health Care Executives
Scholastic Achievement Award presented to a health administration student with the highest GPA; given by the Alumni Association and presented at the Annual symposium for Health Care Executives

Health Informatics:
Health Informatics Outstanding Graduate Award presented to a graduating student for outstanding academic performance and significant contributions to the Health Informatics Program

Health Information Management:
Outstanding Health Information Management Student Awards presented annually by the Alabama Association for Health Information Management to one or more academically outstanding students in health information management

Medical Technology:
Medical Technology Scholastic Award

Nuclear Medicine Technology:
Academic Excellence Award presented to the nuclear medicine technology student with the highest grade point average
Mallinckrodt Award for the Outstanding Nuclear Medicine Technology Student

Nurse Anesthesia:
Agatha Hodgins Award presented to a nurse anesthesia student in recognition of academic excellence

Physical Therapy
Student Services Award presented to a graduating physical therapy student for high academic achievement, involvement in community service, and demonstrated concern and service for fellow classmates

Radiation Therapy:
Ben Blackburn Memorial Physics Award for Excellence in Physics presented to a graduating radiation therapy student
Norbert Black Award for Clinical Excellence presented to a graduating radiation therapy student

Radiography:
Outstanding Clinical Achievement Awards presented to one or more graduating radiography students in recognition of clinical excellence

Respiratory Therapy:
Respiratory Therapy Program Clinical Excellence Award sponsored by Medical Specialties, Inc. presented to a respiratory therapy student
Respiratory Therapy Program Faculty Award sponsored by Medical Specialties, Inc. presented to a respiratory therapy student

Surgical Physician Assistant:
Margaret K. Kirklin Award for Excellence presented to a graduating surgical physician assistant student who has earned the highest GPA upon completion of the program
