Jeanette N. Keith, M.D. is an Associate Professor in the Department of Nutrition Sciences and in the Department of Medicine, Section of Gastroenterology/Hepatology and an attending physician at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Keith is the Director of Medical Nutrition Services, which provides nutrition and indirect calorimetry consults. She also practices gastroenterology, directs the enteral access service and co-directs the EatRight weight management program. Her main clinical focus is the medical management of obese patients, especially those with GI and nutritional complications following bariatric surgery. Other interests include calcium and vitamin D metabolism, lactose maldigestion as well as women’s and minority health.

She earned her degree in Medicine from the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. She subsequently trained in general Internal Medicine at Indiana University Medical Center. She then completed a Gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Missouri-Columbia and an NIH-supported fellowship in Clinical Nutrition at the University of California-Davis. Prior to joining the faculty at UAB, Dr. Keith was an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the section of GI/Nutrition at the University of Chicago. She is a Fellow of the American College of Nutrition, and a member of the American Medical Association, National Medical Association, American College of Gastroenterology, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR), and the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN).
