Amanda Dorsey, MSHI is the Assistant Director and an instructor in the MSHI Program. She worked in a variety of healthcare settings for more than 12 years prior to joining UAB in 2006.
Amanda began her career at UAB Health Systems Information Services (HSIS) department and performed in a variety of roles including technical writer, business analyst, manager of strategic and regulatory planning and finally as the enterprise project manager for the health system’s HIPAA Project. In 2001, she joined Phoenix Health Systems in Gaithersburg, Maryland as a Senior Consultant. While at Phoenix, she worked as a project manager on both long and short-term engagements including system selections and implementations, contract negotiations, risk assessment and disaster recovery planning, organizational strategic planning and HIPAA preparedness and training. Most recently, she worked at Children’s Health System in Birmingham as a project manager on an Emergency Department Electronic Health Record (EHR).
Among her current responsibilities as the Assistant Director are maintaining the strategic direction of the program, marketing the program to a national audience, recruiting, retaining and advising students, recruiting faculty members, ensuring a suitable curriculum and managing the program’s internship program.
Amanda is a past President and Board Member of the Alabama Chapter of HIMSS, a member of HIMSS, AMIA, AHIMA, the MSHI Alumni Executive Committee, and a past member of the Board of Directors for UAB’s National Alumni Society.
